The concept of Christ Community Church originated in 1978. In the fall of 1978 the consistory of the Emmanuel Community Reformed church in Edmonton was approached by an ad-hoc fact finding committee with a request that a survey be conducted of all members of the Emmanuel congregation residing in St. Albert. The purpose of the survey was to obtain feedback relative to the proposed establishment of a Reformed congregation in St. Albert. This request was granted and a survey was conducted.
The outcome of the survey was that the Emmanuel Community Reformed Church undertook an outreach ministry by establishing a mother/daughter relationship with Christ Community Church in St. Albert. A Steering Committee was appointed consisting of five and eventually six families. This Committee was responsible for all the initial planning for the new congregation.
Christ Community Church began holding monthly evening services in December 1979, and then commenced with regular Sunday morning services on March 2, 1980 in the Ronald Harvey Elementary School auditorium. During the first two years Christ Community Church grew from the original six families to approximately twenty-five families.
In the fall of 1981 Classis Cascades was approached with the request to formally organize Christ Community Church as a full fledged congregation of the Reformed Church in America. On November 29, 1981 the “organizational service” was held. Christ Community Church installed its first formal Pastor on that date.
